And that’s me, enslaved by the books - 26 Apr 2007 - Flickr

Because of the actions I used, it looks old, so old… I kind of feel like a monk in this photo, studying in a monastery centuries ago…

Two of the great from Brazil, watch out for these guys, they’ll be big big huge! =D

Fujifilm S5 Pro Firmware Ver 1.06 Review

The Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro combines the mechanics of Nikon’s D200 with a refined version of Fujjifilm’s extended dynamic range sensor and image processing system from its FinePix S3 Pro. The $1999 S5 Pro is still 6.1 megapixels and slow as molasses when it comes to processing and saving its huge image files, but it shares the D200’s excellent mechanics, autofocus, exposure system, wireless flash compatibility, durability and form factor. In short, expecting anything better out of the FinePix S3 successor would be a pipe drea. The wedding and portrait photographers who were enthusiastic about the S3 have more to like about the S5.

Features:

* Image processing and quality. Real Photo Technology Pro, which combines the Super CCD SR Pro and the RP (Real Photo) Processor Pro, allows for greater dynamic range with smoother tonality from highlight to shadow
* The improved Super CCD SR Pro features an optimised low-pass filter to reduce noise and minimise moiré
* The newly developed RP Processor Pro features two cycles of noise reduction which enables photographers to take images at even higher sensitivities (ISO 100 to ISO 3200) with visibly reduced noise
* Greater flexibility to control colour and dynamic range. For even greater creative control over the FinePix S5 Pro’s dynamic range, photographers can now choose from up to six preset ranges between 100% and 400% For improved reproduction

Canon EOS-1D Mark III First Look at PopPhoto

Canon EOS-1D Mark IIIPopPhoto has a first look review of the 10.1 megapixel Canon EOS-1D Mark III and they write, “Do pros really want a giant (and vulnerable) 3-inch LCD on their DSLRs? They should. Since the AF is disabled in Live Preview mode, the larger screen makes it much easier to focus and compose, and for critical work you can focus using the 5X or 10X magnification assist.”

Canon EOS-1D Mark III Features Include:

  • Updated DIGIC III image processor
  • 19 area Auto Focus system
  • ISO 6400
  • 3.0″ LCD monitor (with a live view feature)

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 Review at DPInterface

DPInterface has reviewed the 10.2 megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 and writes, “The Panasonic Lumix LX2 looks like a good choice for landscape photographers with its three “wide” features (Photos, lens, LCD) who will likely be shooting in RAW at the lowest ISO. If you’re looking to get really fine detail, shoot at high ISOs and/or make big prints, there are other cameras which can do the job better (less noise). Digital SLR owners looking for a pocket camera should consider looking elsewhere too, again, better options out there.”

Canon PowerShot SD1000 (IXUS 70) Review at DCRP

Canon IXUS 70 SD1000DCRP has reviewed the 7.1 megapixel Canon (IXUS 70) SD1000 and writes, “Camera performance was superb. The SD1000 starts up in under a second, despite having a lens to extend. Focusing times are noticeably quicker than on older ELPHs, and low light focusing was accurate. Shutter lag wasn’t a problem, and shot-to-shot delays were minimal. Like all of Canon’s cameras, the SD1000’s burst mode is quite good, allowing you to keep shooting at 1.6 frames/second until your high speed memory card fills up. The SD1000 also offers support for the USB 2.0 High Speed standard. Battery life was the only weak spot here, being about 15% below average in the ultra-compact group.”

Canon SD1000 Press Release:

  • 3x zoom
  • 2.5-inch LCD
  • ISO 1600
  • 30fps VGA Movies
  • Face Detection AF/AE/FE
  • Noise Reduction Technology
  • Red-Eye Correction

Canon PowerShot A550 Review at ITReviews

Canon PowerShot A550ITReviews reviews the 7.1 megapixel Canon PowerShot A550 and writes, “This is a well-featured, compact digital camera at just a touch over ÂŁ100. It’s easy to use as a first-time digital compact, but has the specification to stay with you until you reach enthusiast level. It’s crying out for a higher-capacity memory card, though, and still needs work on its control buttons.”

Features include:

  • 4x optical zoom
  • 2.0 inch LCD
  • ISO 80 to 800
  • 9 point AF
