Braun 4000 Scanning extra - 1

by
Jonathan Eastland

Kodak processed and card or plastic mounted Kodachrome slides batch scanned in the Braun 4000 supplied 50 cartridge cause few jamming problems when the mount, particularly card, remains undamaged; i.e. not bent, sliced apart and then re-sealed with Selotape (Scotch), or labels, and, not defaced with old, worn, dog eared or misaligned caption labels, especially those placed so that a small portion of the label extends beyond the edge of the mount.

It is best to carefully remove any such labels used in the process of analogue archiving as these add microns to the overall thickness of the mount. The tolerances of the Braun cartridge are small and the mounted slide needs to be able to move freely in the cartridge slot, otherwise it will most likely jam during a batch scanning session.

Thin press-stud type plastic mounts are probably those offering the most trouble free experience, but carefully removing slides from card mounts of almost any description and vintage is a tedious process, adding considerably to the time schedule of a 50 batch scan. Nonetheless, it's worth doing if you want to avoid even the most minor of hassles.

Attached to this post are some illustrations of the kind of thing to avoid together with a few showing best practice.

Good scanning....!

Canon creates 50 megapixel monster

picture_2.jpg

Canon has recently introduced its prototype CMOS sensor that captures images in 50 megapixel glory - twice the resolution of Canon’s closetst competitor. What makes this achievement all the more impressive is the fact that Canon managed to shrink this 50 megapixel sensor to a mere 19mm x 28mm in size, which is equivalent to CMOS sensors used in DSLRs today.

DIY: Tripod/Monopod from Tennis Ball and Coins

Not so long ago I’ve posted some interesting DIY projects to make a cheap camera monopod with a bottle-cork and using a lightweight cane or walking stick to replace your tripod/monopod.

This time you’ll learn how to make;

1. A tennis ball tripod from an old tennis ball which can be found near a public tennis court after hours (for free).

2. A tripod/monopod head adapter using some coins

Inspiring Photo: Sandrasselotter (Echis carinatus)

What a bokeh!

Photo Inspiration: (photo_title}
Sandrasselotter (Echis carinatus) - Nose surgery done!, originally uploaded by guenterleitenbauer.

One of the most dangerous snakes, because of her aggressiveness and very toxic poison. Most of the lethal incidents with snakes have to be written on her account, at least in africa (in India it is the cobra, but not the king cobra!). About 40.0000 people die each year from snake bites. About 10.000 could be victims of this snake, if the numbers are correct. Taken in a terrarium Scharnstein/Upper Austria, Austria in Winter 2007.
