Here are a couple of short galleries of homespun images taken with the new DA* lenses. All the images have great bokeh open wide and look plenty sharp, without a trace of purple-fringing (the shots are supposedly unaltered in that respect). I'm looking forward to hearing some more anecdotal information about the lenses, too (in the meanwhile, read this thread by Chris at DPreview). Everyone who's played with them loves them.

DSLRPhoto.com has pointed out that the Pentax Japan website is displaying an apology for having already run out of the DA* 50-135mm, which has proven so popular in Japan that they’ve had to increase their production order to try to meet the demand for the rest of the summer and fall. There are two ways of looking at this: it sucks if you are desperate for the lens in the next few weeks and you didn’t pre-order, but it’s awsome publicity any time demand out-paces production (like the Nintendo Wii).

This installment of Weekly Photo Tips is all about Adobe Lightroom. No, not one long run on story, but a bunch of little snippets, so buckle up and get ready to take notes and click on links.

1. If you haven’t done so already, go directly to the Adobe website and download the upgrade to Lightroom version 1.1.

2. If you have Lightroom, you most likely have the Scott Kelby book “Lightroom for Digital Photographers”. Well, his book also has an upgrade for version 1.1 and you can (and should) get it here.

3. Terry White has a 1 hour and 20 minute podcast “Lightroom 1.1 Workflow” it’s a phenomenal walkthrough of Lightroom from start to finish, of such quality you would expect to pay for it, but put your wallet away because this one is free, you can download it here. You will also find more podcasts for Lightroom, Photoshop and other Adobe products @ Terry’s website.

4. Michael Tapes also offers almost two and one half hours of FREE Lightroom tutorials. These are divided into small 10-15 minute segments and are subject specific.
