Panasonic Wins Four EISA Awards for 2007-2008

EISA Recognizes Panasonic’s Leading Role in Consumer Electronics with a record number of four EISA Awards

Press release
Wiesbaden, Germany

Panasonic, the leading brand by which Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. is known, has been selected by the Video Panel of the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) as the recipient of the prestigious “Best Product 2007-2008” award in four categories: HD-ready Plasma TV, Memory Camcorder, DVD/HDD Recorder and Compact Camera. EISA is the largest editorial multimedia organization in Europe, with a membership of fifty Audio, Mobile Electronics, Video and Photo magazines drawn from twenty European countries.

“We are truly honored to receive these four EISA awards that were selected by many leading European journalists and experts in the consumer electronics industry. We will continue to create new innovative products and technologies that will help people realize a better quality life,” commented Joachim Reinhart, President and Chief Operating Officer of Panasonic Europe.

Panasonic’s TH-42PV70/PX70 VIERA models received the “European HD-ready Plasma TV 2007-2008” award. The EISA judging panel stated that “for movie enthusiasts, plasma displays are still the most cinematic performers. For the perfect illustration of this point, look no further than Panasonic’s TH-42PV70 plasma display. It delivers almost perfect picture quality and most impressive of all, however, is the highly affordable price.”

Panasonic’s HDC-SD1 was selected as “European Memory Camcorder 2007-2008.” The SD-card based memory camcorder was seen by the EISA judging panel as “one of the world’s smallest and most reliable...

Nikon vs Canon 3? LCD Monitor Resolution Controversy

There have been a lot of controversy and heated debate recently on the 3″ LCD monitors on the new DSLR from both Canon and Nikon. Nikon quoted a resolution of 922,000 pixels on their new D300 and D3 and Canon quoted a resolution of 230,000 pixels for their new 40D and 1Ds Mark III.

Some people noted that Nikon’s 3″ LCD display has a VGA resolution of 640 x 480. If you do the maths, that is equal to 307,200 pixels. So how did Nikon come up with a figure of 922,000 pixels. To put it simply, each pixel is made up of 3 individual red, green and blue color pixels, so if you multiply 307,200 by 3, then you would get roughly 922,000 pixels. [1]

Then suddenly, some of these people began to claim that Nikon’s 3″ LCD only has a 15% more pixels than Canon’s  230,000 pixels 3″ LCD, that somehow, Nikon was deceiving the public by quoting a higher resolution by multiplying the pixels by 3 and Canon was not doing that. [2]

Well, actually, Canon was doing exactly he same thing as Nikon. Canon’s 3″ LCD has a resolution of 320 x 240, which is equal to 76,800. If you multiply that by 3 (color pixels), then you would get a figure of 230,400 pixels.

For large LCD computer or TV displays, resolution is always quoted “horizontal no. of pixels” x “vertical no. of pixels”, for example 640 x 480, 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024 etc. However,

Inspiring Photo: Little Fish

“Stunning image! Great concept, visualization, and execution.”

Little Fish, originally uploaded by mister bend.

Photographer’s Comment:
The shot is basically a large glass tank with a base for stones and the wavy plant, then about another foot or so of water to the surface. The bottle was put in place with fishing line, and the fish was shot seperately, but in the same tank/lighting minus the diffusion. Lighting - Short-duration Broncolor packs, two fibre optic wands through diffusion on either side of the bottle, softlight reflector high overhead for the surface reflection, grid on very low power to illuminate the background.
