Glow Effect in Photoshop

Want to know how to add a really cool glow effect to an image using Photoshop? You've come to the right place. This method creates really sharp looking glow effects using a combination of Photoshop's layer styles, the pen tool and colour blending. The end effect is quite stunning and hopefully you'll pick up some tips you didn't know before. The overall effect is very nice, simple and effective. Though I wouldn’t say it is hard to figure out how to do this effect, it is a very well presented tutorial and should help many people who are in the earlier stages of the learning process.

Tips for Taking Better Autumn Photos

autumn photography tutorialHow to capture the essence of autumn colors in pictures when we enjoy the beauty of the autumn in New England or in one of the other states famous for the colorful fall foliage? After many years of experience when taking pictures of autumn leaves for professional stock photography and for books and articles I reveal some of my techniques in this article.

Nowadays it is so much easier and more fun to use digital cameras for taking pictures in the outdoors of autumn leaves and the nice colors of fall foliage. With a digital camera you can immediately check if your shot was hitting what you wanted to capture and it is easy to redo it if needed.

The captured digital files will easily support your memory of a nice fall experience and you can work on with them at home on your computer and display it for others.

Center for the Visual Arts

Center for the Visual Arts
Originally uploaded by mfophotos.

On Saturday, Adrienne and I spent a good part of the day at the Toledo Museum of Art. No big photography show there, but I wanted just to view some of the galleries and it has been about 5 years since I was last there. First of all, admission is FREE. Second, they opened a new Glass Pavilion in 2006 across the street and it is amazing. Third, I saw this amazing structure with the light hitting it just so, and had to photograph it. It houses the school of Visual Arts for the University of Toledo, and was designed by Frank Gehry. I shot some holga pics of it too, and will be hoping that they came out well. I love the dramatic shadows and the form of the building, and the clouds were perfect. It could be a really interesting place to shoot at dusk, too.

Man, this little girl was just too adorable . . . and yes that really is her coloring. Not much enhancement in PS. Just blue blue eyes and flaming red hair . . .

Edited with my soft pop action from my workflow set.

HKCCF 2007 Showgirls Gallery with Canon EOS 40D & Adobe Lightroom

I shoot these pics on the first day I bought my Canon EOS 40D at the Hong Kong Computer & Communications Festival 2007(HKCCF 2007). Now that Adobe has released the updated version of my preferred RAW conversion application, Lightroom 1.2. I have processed the pics from that day and put together a gallery here.

All the pics were shot with Canon EOS 40D with EF 50mm f1.4, EF 85mm f.18 and EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS. All pics were shot in RAW and converted to .psd format with Adobe Lightroom 1.2 and then exported to Photoshop CS3 with minimal image adjustment (a few had slight Levels adjustment), resizing and sharpening, addition of photo frames and text and saved in jpeg format.

You can click on individual images for a larger view at 25% or original size. You can see quite a bit of fine details at this size.

If you have not read my original Canon EOS 40D review article yet, you can read it here.
