Great Portraits in the Great Outdoors

If you have ever photographed your weekend outing, family reunion, or a special vacation getaway with your friends or family, you know that outdoor photography can present some very special challenges. This is true even for the most seasoned photographer. Direct sunlight can be harsh. Unwanted objects can interfere with your composition. Proper color rendering can be problematic. Existing Light Photography

Here is a photo I took last night at a bar. All I had with me was my ultra-compact Casio Exilim EX-Z750. This is a coaster sitting on a metal table under a light (no flash used). I really like how the coaster seems to float in mid-air.

The first thing I did is get out of AUTO mode and selected a best-shot mode for nighttime photos. This slowed my shutter way down. No flash either. At these slow shutter speeds however you need to brace the camera against a sturdy object. In this case I used a nearby wall as I was pointing the camera almost straight down.

Exposure: 0.05 sec (1/20)

Lewis Hamilton World Champion

Not yet. Not just now. It ain’t over ’till is over! Yeah! “Lady Luck” was on his side this year. Until today. And what a difference can this make.
As you can see, I am not a Lewis fan. What I don’t like about him? Appearances can be deceptive. Schumacher wanted to look like nice gay, but Hamilton put this “wolf in sheep disguise”on completely different level. But, he is good. Very good. World champion good….

Instant Beach Erosion

IMGP6095 The combination of big swell and king tides, that correspond with the full moons in spring, has literally eroded scarps over two meters high along the beach in several places at Venus Bay, but beaches are dynamic places and seasonal changes are normal. The sand is actually being sweep back and forth along the beach giving the beach is long sweeping shape.

08-oct beach erosion

The bigger erosion risk for the beach are blowouts, caused by wind and clearing of vegetation in the dunes behind the beach.
