Adelaide by Night

Cafe Area of Rundel Street Northern side of Rundle Street is paved with coins

Whilst the city is not actually paved with gold, the colours of the illuminated buildings can assume that golden glow at night. Actually the northern side of Rundle street is paved with coins. These where all taken with night mode and since I didn't have my tripod with me I just used suitable nearby posts, bins and veranda poles for support.

Travel Photography Tips: Creating Your Own Luck

Ok. So you’ve read up on the technical side of taking great photos. You know your aperture from your exif and you’ve experimented with shutter speeds. But there is something missing from the photos you’ve been taking. They’re ok, but that’s it. Just ok. Why? You wonder. Well, here’s a little secret: it’s all about luck. Well not really. More to the point, great travel photography is about creating your own luck.

The Process of Realizing A Photographic Inspiration

For the artist who is a painter the brush, oil paints and canvas are extentions of what goes on in the painter’s brain. The motivating factor is the inspiration that drives the artist to create what is considered an original work of art. The painter is limited by how long they can hold onto the image within their minds that has inspired them, providing they aren’t working from a photograph. Its much more difficult for a surrealist painter since most of the content that inspires their work is the product of dreams or a too lively imagination.

Canon Powershot A650 IS Review

Warning: Division by zero in /home/reviews/public_html/digitalcamera/wp-content/plugins/tla_83199.php on line 595

12226 Canon’s newly-introduced Powershot A650 IS becomes their self-described "new top-of-the line" A-series camera offering, and anyone who follows Canon knows they view the A-series as providing a lot of performance at a value price. For someone who wants/needs to shoot at 12+ MP with a camera by Canon, there are only five choices in the current lineup: 1Ds-Mk. III, 5D, G9, SD950 IS or the A650 IS. Opt for any of the Canons other than the A650 IS and you can expect to pay anywhere from $90 to $7,635 more for the privilege. The value part of the equation is looking pretty good so far.

The Case of the Shinny Balls & the Headless Ghost

14-oct rundle mall (7 image photomosaic)

Contact sheet from picasa This image is yet another multi-image photomosaic, stitched together with autostitch. I like the technique as a way to get a superwide angle view in a tight space (compare it with the normal "wide" angle/zoomed out view) below. The poor man on the right has become a ghost and lost his head because he moved between frames, but it does add a little of the surreal to the center of Adelaide.

HP Photosmart A826 Home Photo Center

Warning: Division by zero in /home/reviews/public_html/digitalcamera/wp-content/plugins/tla_83199.php on line 595

0,1425,sz=1&i=171704,00 The HP Photosmart A826 Home Photo Center ($249.99 direct) is a prime example. Think of it as a photo kiosk for your kitchen (or anywhere else you like). Modeled on the sort of kiosk you can find in your local drugstore, the A826 lets you plug in a memory card or USB key, then submit orders through a 7-inch touch screen while previewing photos at 4.2 inches diagonally—an enormous size by home photo printer standards.

The A826 can print standard-format photos at sizes up to 5 by 7 inches and panoramas up to 4 by 12 inches. As you would expect from most any dedicated photo printer, it can print from PictBridge cameras and computers, too, but then you don’t get to use the touch screen. The screen is shaped like a trapezoid with rounded corners, roughly 7 inches across the bottom, 5.5 inches across the top, and 4 inches high. Control icons on the left- and right-hand sides set off a 5.6-inch full-color display area and let you do things such as scroll through the photos or give the print command.
