Vintage Pentax Television Ads

I really, really love these old Pentax ads from Japan between 30 and 40 years ago. The first is an animated Moomin-type character who goes about chirping "Pentax, Pentax, Pentax." I'm really going to try to adopt him as the mascot for OK1000 Pentax Blog. Seriously. Before the ad ends, you see an animated woman traveling on a camel. The second one, much longer because it's a few spots all together, has an Asahi Pentax Spotmatic helping this same young woman (no longer a drawing) capture snapshots of her trip around Japan. The Pentax Moomin character shows up as a print again on her travel bag. I wish they would remake that girl's ad campaign today with the K100D Super, shot by shot, because it's pretty fascinating (albeit very revealing). If you know of any more out there that are on the web, please don't hesitate to tell us all about them!

Sewn By Blythe: Pentax Spotmatic

I wish I had seen this earlier, but thanks to T.O.P. for ultimately pointing it out... a beautiful, handmade Spotmatic created from what appears to be wool, felt, and tender affection for a terrific vintage camera. The attention to original camera details is fantastic. This is from Sewn By Blythe. (BTW, I love her monsters, too.)

Asahi Pentax 50th Anniversary DSLR

"This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Asahi Pentax (common name: AP type) since its release in 1957. Taking this opportunity, we built up a design study model based on Digital SLR K10D. Asahi Pentax AP features Pentaprism for the first time that led to the origin of PENTAX brand. PENTAX materialized correct image of viewfinder image which was previous challenge for PENTAX. The built-in flash was removed from this design study model, and recreated characteristic delta roof for Asahi Pentax AP."

If you want to see it, you'll have to go to the Pentax Forum in Shinjuku. You'll remember the first Pentaprism SLR camera that Asahi released in 1957 was called the "Pentax." Eventually, this design was so popular they changed the name of the company. If you notice the old logo on the top (AOCo), above the words Asahi Pentax, it means Asahi Optical Company. This is a terrific vintage look for the K10D, and I dare say I wouldn't miss the pop-up flash as long as there's the K10D hotshoe. And check out the polished metal finish on the "Takumar" lens, too!
