I have been photographing the interesting patterns of life, shell trails, as below, crab balls and diggings, footprints, etc on the sand for some time. I don’t don’t how to read their hidden message, when the next tide is, or is the swell dropping, or is a big flood likely, or is it just dinner time. Or is there even a message there at all?

I am finally succumbing to watermarks on my images uploaded to the net. I know a lot of folk hate them but there is just so much open theft and disregard of the rights of those posting on the net. I once championed the idea of the creative commons system that was adopted on flickr. Now I see the same images reposted so often I’m saddened. The copyright doesn’t mean I wont give permission to use and repost my work, but please write to me first. There are lots of utilities to add watermarks to your photos, many free and it is a common feature in photo mangers. I’m using the new feature to add a watermark included at the bottom of the file export in Picasa 3.0. It is simple and unobtrusive.

Talented Photographers on Flickr

Anyway, I will post a simple tute this weekend. But until then, I would like to list some of the photographer's on flickr whose work I really enjoy following.

First I will begin with talented people who deserve more views!
pastel kitchen caught my eye with this interesting photo

I found more of her stream featuring this young girl, that I assumed to be her daughter. But its actually the photographer herself! At only 13 years old, her pictures are worth a look.

I believe photoshop and photography should go hand in hand, and a person that is capable of producing works of art from his pictures using photoshop, is flamejob. a photographer living in Melbourne.

Originally catching my eye with the above pic, Skorj has the most interesting polaroid images of Japan. His titles are equally as interesting.

Check out moaan for a beautiful bokeh filled gallery. His pictures make me long for a noct-nikkor!

While I dont want to seem biased by mentioning people I know irl, Junglejuz deserves a plug for his incredible panoramas. Why travel the world...

Traveling is a lot of fun for me, and I always like to take pictures while I'm about, but I find it difficult at times. I have a hard time choosing what kinds of cameras to take with me, what film, where to take pictures, and what kind of photos to take. Some of what I have learned:

1) Pack light. This may not be hard for most photographers, but if you're like me you have about 40 cameras to choose from when you take a photo. I brought four on this trip, and really that was two too many. I ended up taking my Pentax dSLR, Rolleicord, Polaroid SLR680 and Olympus XA. Next time I think just the XA and Pentax would do just fine. I brought the tripod too, which wasn't a bad idea, but I didn't use it as much as I could have. I'd suggest an SLR that has lots of control along with a small pocketable P&S would be a great combo.

2) Scope out some places before taking the trip. The internet is your best place to find the best photo spots in an unfamiliar place. Look and see what locals and other travelers take in the...
