Patterson Panorama

Patterson Panorama, originally uploaded by imageo.
These where part of a set of 12 photos taken from the public walkway at Patterson Lakes. What interested me most was the dramatic sky (no polarizing filter was used by the way) and thought oit would work well with the collagy/fragmented panorama effect. At first I tried hard to keep the horizon essentially level, but in the end I felt the higgledy piggledy twist & tilts added a bit of drama. This was created to be a screen wallpaper for my laptop. I used picasa, using their picture pile collage option, which now lets you slide and rotated images on the screen. I also removed almost half the images from the original series.

Not that the more conventional autostitched panorama is not without drama. Click your mouse on the seadragon panel above and you can zoom in (with the mouse wheel or the + button) and pan around. It is a 180 degree view, and taken hand held, at approximnately 15 degree incriments, which I find give be the right sort of overlap for autostich.

Tiled to the extreme

P2100095 tile

I have created many versions of photo mosaics and tilings of this little superb (blue) wren. Now is the time to put those images to good use. The image above look really great on mugs and the set below where all printed at 10"" by 8" framed and mounted together as a set on the wall (very striking even if I do say myself)

In modern life we are surrounded by hundreds of machines, yet there is just one that most people would find hard to do without. A photomosaic using some of the many devices of modern life as tiles.

mucking around with mosaics

I have been doing a lot of "playing" with photomosaics, specifically the ones that make up another image. My software of choice has been andrea mosaic for a long long time. It is free to download, and gives you a lot of control over, as well as the tools to build the library of tile images you use. To be fair its user interface is old fashioned text forms, but perfectly servicable.

Blue_eye poster (created with andera mosaic)

The past couple of weeks I have been trying out mosaic creator, it has a much snazzier user interface (it may not be any easier to use though) and has two important differences to andrea

  1. it can generate an image using a range of tile shapes (eg triangle and hexagons)
  2. It does not need to firstly compile libraries of tile images (you can give it individual images or directories of images)

This second feature got me thinking, I could use a standard iBlue_eyes logo mage and get a photomosaic made from any given day's photos (providing I had taken enough photos). Here is how a few of the different day tilings worked out on my photo eye icon.

Sunrise

Yet another multi-image panorama, the photos were taken in new guinea two years ago BA (thats before autostitch, before I started using autostitch). Just go to show it can be worthwhile revisiting some of your old photos.

Still playing with photomosaic panorama

collage of the inidivual photosI must admit I do love to create sweeping landscapes by taking a series of images and then using autostitch to stitch them into as large as possible image that I can (I have a 12,400 by 3,888 pixel version of this one). The downside is the difficulty (and cost) of having large panorama photos printed and framed. Still the final results look great.
