Scanned photos - Johnny Griffin Quartet

jazz Johnny Griffin Quartet

I lost some of my most precious negatives and I decided to scan some of the A5 sized photos that I printed at the time. The scanned photos needed quite a lot of restoring and I'm not 100% happy with the results. Have a look for yourself.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ50

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ50

Some things just go together like Brad and Angelina, peanut butter and jelly, Madonna and controversy. And then there are things that aren’t so buddy-buddy like digital cameras and Wi-Fi. In theory it sounds wonderful. You take your shots, find a hot spot then upload your images to friends and family. Gee, it sounds just like snapping a shot with your cell phone and zipping photos to your buddies—without tracking down a hot spot. And that’s just one of the issues—who wants to spend time uploading huge digicam files while sipping a Doubleshot on Ice to those same pals or trying to see if you’ve subscribed to XYZ hot spot just to log-on? And then there are our “friends”—those lovable SSID and WEP key numbers. With cell phones so handy, it’s no wonder Wi-Fi enabled cameras have gone nowhere as Canon and Nikon have tried unsuccessfully to foist this feature on the public. Now it’s Panasonic’s turn to see if they can overcome the many obstacles and design a Wi-Fi digicam that’s appealing to those beyond uber-geeks. At least they started off with a solid foundation—the popular TZ series of compact cameras with potent 10x zooms. Let’s see if it does the job or it’s just an overpriced digicam…

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2

Adobe Systems Incorporated announced on July 29 the availability of Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® 2 software, the photographer’s essential toolbox for managing, adjusting and presenting large volumes of digital photographs. With new enhancements such as dual-monitor support, radical advances in non-destructive localized image correction, and streamlined search capabilities, Lightroom 2 is a compelling upgrade that simplifies photography from shoot to finish. As Adobe’s first application to support 64-bit for Mac OS X 10.5 Macintosh computers with Intel® processors and Microsoft® Windows® Vista® 64bit operating systems, Lightroom 2 also provides improved memory performance for dealing with large scale images.

Modules and Features:

•The enhanced Library module in Lightroom 2 helps streamline and accelerate photographers’ workflows.

•The Suggested Keywords feature helps photographers keyword their images by making intelligent suggestions based on their own previous efforts.

•New dual-monitor support allows users to expand their workspace, giving them flexibility to edit and organize images in a way that maximizes an additional display.

•In the Develop module, the new Local Adjustment Brush lets photographers fine-tune specific areas of an image to precisely adjust color, exposure and tonal range without affecting other areas of the image.

•The new Graduated Filter expands the toolbox in Lightroom, allowing for edits to larger areas by applying gradually diminishing or increasing adjustment effects such as exposure, clarity, and saturation, alone, or in any combination.

•Lightroom 2 also helps photographers print more efficiently by quickly arranging photos...

STW Challenge September: Dinner for One

Dinner for One

Hi all! Thanks for bearing with me while I zipped away on vacation. I had hoped to post a challenge for August, but my Internet connection was unbearably slow. But now I’m back, and getting caught up on my blog reading and I was totally inspired by Matt today for this month’s challenge… Dinner for One. First off, go see his post which is fantastic. His photos are playful and poignant all at the same time. Remarkable and inspiring, as always.

Anyway, since I am now home alone for dinner myself today, I thought, let’s make it a theme. So, let’s see your dinners for one. What do you eat when you are all alone? Do you go simple or do you get fancy? For me, I usually just find myself with an avocado and a spoon, but tonight, I decided to get a little more creative and came up with a little grilled eggplant with a fresh tomato and corn salsa. Yum.

The usual rules and are up on the Flickr group… the things like be constructive, take the photos during the month if possible, 3 photos per person and the last day will be around September 30th give or take a few days.
