BIRDS PHOTOGRAPHY

Birds can be a very interesting subject to shoot because they offer a great variety of shapes, colors and dimensions. In order to do that you have to know some basic things about photography and some necessary equipment. This what we are going to talk about in this article.
1.The right time-The best season for shooting birds photography is in Spring, because is the season that you can find them almost anywhere trying to mate, and their colors are the best. This doesn't mean you cant get great pictures during other seasons, for example:during autumn when they migrate in groups. So you have to find the opportunity that fits you the most. And the perfect time of the day are after the sunrise and before sunrise, time in which

they are very active and the lighting from the sun is not to strong.
2.Know your subject and the right place-In order for you to get great photos you have to know all you can about the birds you want to photograph, because knowing their habits helps you a lot in finding the right place and time to take great pictures.
3.Camera and equipment-If you want to shoot bird photography you need to have a SLR/DSLR with a 300mm (or more) lens, but in the back yard the rules change. You can even get good shots with an advanced point and shoot with 10x Zoom.
A good tripod or a monopod...

Photoshop CS4 New User Interface and Extras

With the new release some of the most noticeable changes are in the interface design and structure. The panels can be docked within an application frame as well as the ability to easily access different workspace settings from the new application bar at the top.

The use of keyboard shortcuts to select specific tools still plays a big role in Photoshop CS4, but if you hold the key down instead, you can temporarily switch to using the tool associated with that keyboard shortcut. Release the key and you can revert to working with the previously selected tool.

This is just the beginning...

“The Perfect Moment”

"The Perfect Moment"
© David A. Ziser

My good friend Marc was married this past Friday and I was honored to shoot the wedding. Marc was one of my assistants about eight years ago helping me capture the sunsets for so many other brides over the years. This past Friday, he had one the best sunsets ever at his outdoor wedding held in Ault Park. This image was made during the last moments of that sunset. I held the camera right on the sidewalk as I framed up the composition and got this shot. I love the combination of color and contrasts in this silhouetted image. I think it speaks to the title of the image and the moment Marc and Kristen were sharing at that instant. Camera specs; Canon 40D fitted with 10-22mm lens at 10mm, F 4.0 @ 1/250 second, ISO 800. Enjoy! -David

Quick Hit Monday: 668 Free Things; Oh, What I Wish I Would Have Said, Lightroom/Photoshop Classes, and Saving My Ear

Good Morning Everybody,
We made it through a very busy weekend and this week looks to be a continuation of the same going full speed ahead - pedal to the metal. Jason, Kelby Training's ace #1 videographer arrived yesterday. The plan is to complete my first five Kelby Training videos for the year and get a good start on the next set. My team has been organizing churches, parks, gowns, and models for our three day shoot. Stay tuned this week and I'll keep you posted on our progress. One thing for sure - no alligators in the Cincy are ;~)

How about some quick news. David Cross, one of the Photoshop Guys (PhotoshopUser TV) started a series on his blog called, "Complete The Sentence." It's kind of a neat peek into what his guest "Sentence Finishers" think about in a very general sentence. It's a nice series. My "Completed Sentences" hit his blog last Friday. You can give them a read right here. Others who have "Finished The Sentence are; Jasmine Star, John Paul Caponigro, Scott Kelby, and Eddie Tapp. You can find all their "Finished Sentences" right here. Thanks, Dave for letting me help "Finish The Sentence."

If you haven't check in lately with fellow blogger Jason Moore's blog lately,...

FIREWORKS PHOTOGRAPHY

Firework can offer a great view and we all want to have some memories of them, but capturing them in a photograph can be a little bit difficult and needs a lot of practice. Here are some tips to help you throw this process.
1.USE A TRIPOD-and must be a good one if you want to do the best.It would be very helpful to use a remote cable so you avoid all the camera shaking caused by your finger,if not you have to work without it and try to do the best or use your camera timing by setting it 1 sec.
2.CHOOSE THE RIGHT SPOT-It's very important to be in the best position. And also could be great if you enter in your frame some important object like a palace or a bridge.Having water in the foreground could create a beautiful reflection of the firework and is also great. But you have to avoid crowded places so you will not take shoulders or heads of people.Stay in a high place let say a high palace or somewhere else where you can be alone.
3.CAREFUL WITH THE WEATHER-The most import factor is the wind that can spread the smoke and damages your shoots.so you should be extra careful and avoid taking it on the frame.
4.SHUTTER SPEED-you have to use a shutter speed between 1-4 sec,not less that doesn't give the effect you...

Video Training Review: Photoshop Magic With Susi Lawson

Written by T. Michael Testi

As I said in my review of her DVD training video The Fine Art of Photoshop, as soon as you see it, you can recognize a Susi Lawson work of art. There is something about it that jumps off the page and says look at me! In Photoshop Magic, Susi Lawson shares more of her techniques and insight, so you get a better feel on how to create these kinds of wonderful works of art.

 Susi Lawson – Photoshop Magic
Photoshop Magic contains 15 videos covering 13 lessons that detail how to work with Photoshop. They cover techniques of working with brushes, creating portraits by using photos to begin your creation and using Photoshop skill to enhance with drawing and painting over the image. Photoshop Magic comes on two disks, one with the videos and one with the necessary images so you can follow along.

Lesson 1, "Festive Cover Art" begins by showing you how to reproduce the cover artwork. You begin with an ordinary photograph and you will see how to create the festive look using Photoshop. This lesson covers setting the background, using selections and curves, showing you how to touch up a photo, filling in hair, and finally using vector shapes add the colorful shapes.

Lesson 2, "Air Brush Art" (two videos) now

“Midnight Blues”

"Midnight Blues"
© David A. Ziser

This is one more image made during last Saturday's wedding. The reception was held at the Taft Museum, a popular and beautiful venue for weddings in the Cincinnati area. On the grounds within the courtyard area is a wonderful arch of foliage that provides a great place for a photograph of this kind. I envisioned the backlighting to "rim" out the couple while at the same time illuminating the trees effectively surrounding the couple in light. The twist was this..... I illuminated the couple with my Z-Ray - my Brinkman Dual Xenon high power flashlight. (See my tutorial entitled, "Z-Ray Lighting - Zap, Bam, Pop" right here to see how I use the this lighting.) I needed to switch the color balance setting in my camera to 2800K (or tungsten) to get the proper color balance on my bride and groom. That resulted in all the ambient light and the flash illumination being rendered much more blue since they both "live" in the cooler" part of the color spectrum. The combination on "multiple flavored" lighting created a fun shot of the couple. Camera specs; Canon 40D fitted with 17-85mm IS lens at 17mm, F 5.6 @ 1/15 second, ISO 1250. Enjoy! -David
