A View From The Clouds

A View From The Clouds
©David A. Ziser

This image was made from the jet on our way to Cabo, Mexico this past Saturday. As we crossed the continental divide, I looked out the plane window and saw this wonderful series of mountain ridges in the distance - they were barely perceptible through the blue haze. I fired off a few shots, checked the viewfinder and thought I had something. I reviewed the images in Lightroom but was still not thrilled with the result, but after some tweaking in Lightroom, mainly pushing up the blacks substantially, I achieved the result I was looking to obtain. The view I saw out the plane window - the endless series of mountain ridges receding into the distance with all their subtle tonalities echoing the majesty of the scene. Camera specs; Canon 40D fitted with 18-200mm IS lens at 155mm, F11 @ 1/800 second, ISO 400. Enjoy! -David

Quick Hit Monday; If Ashton’s Getting Into Weddings, I’m Getting Into Acting; New Canon 5D Mk II Video; and Much More

Good morning everybody,
Well, we arrived safe and sound in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico - and we were exhausted. Too many early morning wake-up calls these last few days, but we are happy to be here. Actually were staying ust down the road a bit in San Jose with out friends, Kent and Sarah Smith whom I have mentioned many times before. San Jose is about 20 minutes outside of Cabo, and not near as touristy or rowdy as Cabo San Lucas. It is just beautiful here, and a perfect place to relax and write a book.

We get off the plane, get the bags to the curb where Kent and Sarah were planning to meet us - they arrived just minutes earlier. As I came out of the terminal, there was Kent pointing a camera at me - his new Canon 5D Mark II that he had just picked up the day before. Yep, we finally have one in our hands - you can bet we will be playing with that puppy all week. I'll keep you posted about our findings. By the way, Kent is a video junkie, so look for the video side of things to maybe get some coverage this week.

I've got lots of stuff for our quick hit Monday today so let's get right to it…

smiley face 2

The lunar, venus & jupiter alignment was visiable as the sun set so I took the opportunity to do a few multi-image series that I could splice together with autostitch. The panorama below was one of the last and I used the "night scene" mode, which unfortunately over exposed and blurred out the moon and the planets but it produced wonderful colours aqnd lighting.

There is supposedly rare cosmic alignment going on right now. Happily the cresent moon, venus and jupiter are ligned up like a smiley, :) the universal emotion for happiness.

Photomontage Assignment (In Process)

I'm now working on the second assignment, the Photomontage. This work is based on the images of the ancient Japanese Samurai and it has been not finished yet and i am still looking around my house for the new elements that i could use to "plug" into my back ^__^.

Barista School

Multi-image panorama created with autostitch

Making a good coffee is as much an art as taking a good photography. Having the best subject, best equipment is not enough you still need inspiration, experience and understanding of the medium as well. Even with the best beans and the best espresso machine you still need a dedicated barista's touch to appreciate the magic. As well as great coffee I had enough photos for firstly create a super wide panorama using autostitch then use mosaic maker to create a multi-image mosaic (you will need to click on the image below to appreciate the "detail").

The panorama from the top is given the photo impression treatment
